Are you looking for an opportunity to have full autonomy, responsibility and accountability for managing the accounts for a well-established SME? We are seeking either a budding Management Accountant (or Assistant Management Accountant) who is looking for their next step to join an impressive business with a unique offering that has gone from strength to strength over the past ten years. Due to pending retirement, my client is looking for somebody who can make this role their own.
Essentially working very closely with the Managing Director of this niche business, you will play a key and valued role in supporting the management of business operations.
To ensure the accurate and timely preparation of management accounts, the effective operation and development of management systems for all accounting functions, particularly those relating to purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll, cash and banking and the nominal ledger
Preparation of appropriate financial reports for monthly meetings
Producing timely and accurate monthly management accounts and annual financial statements
Regular updates of cashflow, forward planning and analysis of the financial position of the company
To manage all correspondences with HMRC relating to VAT, PAYE and all company tax matters.
To manage an effective month end and year end accounting close process
To be available to undertake non financial duties on an adhoc basis throughout the year where required.
Qualifications would be desirable however it’s the experience working in a SME business that counts. Either you will be currently a number two to a FC and looking to take on more accountability or you will be in a similar role already. Essentially you should be adept with all aspects of accounting from the basics to controlling statutory obligations to ensuring detailed financial insight at month end.
In addition to the above, we are seeking the following qualities
Ability to work under pressure (adhere to tight deadlines) and independently in a busy growing organisation
Exceptional data analysis skills – Intermediate Excel
Experience in liaising with tax authorities, auditors, business advisors and board members.
Experience in dealing with confidential information
Non-finance capabilities are desirable
